Bragaw Pedestrian Tunnel

Bragaw Pedestrian Tunnel

We have all seen it. One day we hardly notice a clean wall in our neighborhood or where we shop. The next day we cannot help but notice the same wall, now ugly wall with spray paint graffiti. It can create animosity in our community. It can destroy intangible worth and a sense of security. And it is destructive.

TecPro has a different kind of story about some young skateboarders who got a surprise after they decided to graffiti a new pedestrian tunnel built just for their neighborhood’s convenience and safety by the state of Alaska.Cropped Security Camera Image

Yukon Electric teamed up with TecPro Solutions of Anchorage to install a state of the art surveillance camera system to help protect the tunnel and the community members who would use the tunnel. How good are these cameras? We have all seen those dark blurry videos where you could never be sure who or what was being recorded. Yukon Electric knew they needed something much better, so they called TecPro. TecPro’s solution exceeded everyone’s expectations. Using digital technology with audio recording.

When new graffiti appeared in the pedestrian tunnel a little time reviewing the footage yielded a positive identity on each of the responsible individuals. A couple interviews with pictures in hand revealed the young offender’s names.

TecPro’s Lead installer, Scott Rees, chose to approach the kids directly and give them the opportunity to clean it up on their own. Given this opportunity to respond honorably, they were eager to correct their mistake – especially after having seen the photographic evidence first hand. Scott met with them and got them started. “Sure, it’s fun catching the ‘bad guys’ as we often get to do with TecPro’s top of the line cameras, but sometimes we need to offer grace and opportunity.” They received both and the tunnel is now clean.

Happy endings are always welcome around here.
