Power Supply

Power can be fed to the MOBOTIX cameras via either the network cable or the ISDN cable. There is no need for an additional power supply cable or splitter upstream of the camera.

The voltage is only admitted to the data cable with an additional device downstream of a standard switch.

This is done with any of the following:

  • the network power adapter (MX-NPA-3-RJ) in conjunction with the standard power supply unit (MX-SNT-E01-30-RJ),
  • or the quad-unit power supply (MX-NPR-4)
  • or the eight or twenty-unit power supply (MX-NPR-8/20) for installation in a 19" rack.

The length of the line only hinges upon the data cable criteria, not upon the power supply. MOBOTIX cameras have a power consumption of about 3 watts and can therefore also be fed directly by an ISDN-NTBA without any need for an additional device. In order to get it into operation quickly, the plug-in PSU can also be operated in the relevant free socket (ISDN or network).

Power supply and Network Power Adapter

In order to ensure that potential loops do not affect operation, the MOBOTIX camera possesses three electrically isolated areas (ISDN, network, RS232/IO). This means that a power supply via the network is not connected electrically to the serial port or to the serial input/output.

Central Power Supply

If power is fed centrally to the MOBOTIX cameras via the network, the entire video system can be fed with a computer UPS very simply, i.e. the power supply to the cameras, as well as to the switch and to the recording server, where appropriate. A power rating of only about 60 watts is required for 20 cameras.

Solar Power Supply

MOBOTIX cameras are powered by a 24 to 35 V supply, which means that a modern solar power system would supply adequate power. These types of systems don't just have a 12V output, they also have a 24V output. The power is fed in via pins 7 and 8 of the network or ISDN sockets.

The low power consumption of about 3 W contributes considerably towards the service life of MOBOTIX cameras as well as to the fact that they do not require maintenance. In particular, the very wide ambient temperature range of up to +60° Celsius which the cameras support would be barely imaginable without this low power consumption. Rival systems require three or four times the power and, correspondingly, produce three or four times as much internal heat as a MOBOTIX camera. For this reason they also have a more limited temperature range.
